Marconi Cycling is heading into Winter 2018 with a number of new members joining our ranks for road and criterium events. Newest junior female member Kristie Caplikas has made the Australian Junior Triathlon team for the World Championships at the Gold Coast this September in the 16 – 19 age group. She will be one of the youngest athletes as she will only be 15 at the time of the race. Formerly a Port Macquarie cyclist – Brandon Conway – has also come on board. Brandon is being flagged as a rider to keep an eye on. The 19 year old has just competed in the 120km NSW State CHampionships in Mittagong and was crowned under 23’s Champion.
Over in America, Scott Law has been racing well. In the Thunderhill Raceway Circuit event, Scott came 2nd, reflecting on a big weekend of racing at San Dimas Stage Race, he says he is still learning quite a lot in becoming an on-the-road captain but definitely good signs for things to come for the Elevate KHS Pro-cycling Professional team.
On the 1st of July, Marconi Cycling Club will be hosting the Police Remembrance Cup 2018 at the Sydney Dragway to help raise money for NSW Police Legacy. This year we will not only run an Elite and Masters race, but also a separate Junior under 15’s and 17’s.
A very big thanks goes to our sponsors Mainpac, POlice Bnak, The Odd Spoke, Seight Custom Clothing, ECP Engineering, Bincino Coffee, Tractor 828, Velotune and HellermannTyton for providing the financial support for up to $11,000 in combined prizes and prize money.
Cycling NSW has been an important partner granting us an open status and providing state of the art timing equipment to conduct the racing.
The day will see the return of the NSW Police Cycling Unit, Highway Command and if not in operational demand, we may get a visit from NSW Polair. We will have our club friends Bincino Mobile Coffee on site to serve hot beverages on what we think will be a chilly morning.
