Winter 2018
Welcome to all members. FInally, we got to see some of the best players in the world participating in the Sydney International Billiards Open.
The tournament started on the 6th of April and was played until the 9th of April. There were players from Malaysia, Ireland, Singapore, the UK and of course, Australia.
Club Marconi had some of the best players in the country. Vic Cravino and Vittorio Sacco made it to the final 16, with Roger Farebrother beaten in the quarter-finals. Joe Minici was beaten in the semi-finals by the best player in the world. Joe is number two in Australia, unlucky Joe. All these gentlemen are Club Marconi Members, boys we are so proud of you all. Keep up the good work.
So, we get to the finals with another member, Michael Pearson, who is number three in Australia, playing against the number one player in the world, Peter Guildchrist. Peter did beat Michael in the end but it was magical to watch this man in action. Don’t worry Michael, you still did us very proud.
InterClub Billiards – we have two Marconi teams both doing well. Our boys are so competitive that our very own Vittorio Sacco has the highest break of 102 so far. Well done guys, we will be supporting you all the way.
I need to give a special thank you to Mario Soligo, along with the Sport Directors for supporting our tournaments and also Vince Foti with the Board of Directors for their support. Without this, we couldn’t showcase our beautiful sport. Also, many thanks to Tony Zappia and Management for making our snooker room look like the best room in Australia.
It’s been 6 weeks since we started our Player of the Year competition and so far we have lots of associated members playing for a total of twenty weeks to determine who’s going to play for the top eight. Good luck everybody. This tournament is sponsored by Mario and Suryati Sanna. Thank you for your support throughout all these years, we are so blessed to have you beautiful people on board.
Finally, to my committee members, what can I say, I’d like to thank you all for supporting this fantastic sport that we play most of the year and supporting our association. Doing a great job boys, keep up the good work.
