We wanted to take this opportunity to update you on what is happening at our Club Marconi “Club”.
As we communicated to our Members, Club Marconi was closed effective immediately on Monday 23 March, as a result of nationwide Government restrictions aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19. These closures have had further impacts on the Club and we wanted to keep you updated. We feel it is extremely important during these unprecedented times that you are informed with what we are doing at the Club because you along with all our staff are the most important stakeholders in our Club.
We don’t need to explain to you that the COVID-19 virus has had a significant impact on the operations of the business. You have already experienced a similar impact in your daily lives, on your family and friends and in your broader community including your employment.
We are currently uncertain of how long the Government restrictions will be in place. For this particular reason, Club Marconi was required to enact full closure provisions, along with many other businesses across the country. This has required the very difficult decision to stand down all employees until further notice.
This is a most difficult time for everyone however please be assured the Club is committed to ensuring the welfare of all our employees and we are working tirelessly to provide them with all the necessary resources to support them through this difficult period. At this point in time we do not know how long this situation will remain however we remain committed to reopening as soon as practical and welcome back our employees, Members and guests. With respect to your Club, our primary objective is to ensure that your Club is around to operate and continue to provide services to our Members and guests.
When we return there will be a recalibration and restructure of the business, including the total cost structure which Board and management will work through over the next few months. It is important that the decisions made will be to ensure the business is sustainable. As you are aware the Narellan property option for sale will settle in October next year and over the next 12 months, the Club will potentially borrow up to $5m to commence the refurbishment program.
There are a number of challenges facing the Club during the next few months, including the wellbeing of our staff. It has been our priority to ensure there are a range of services available for our staff.
The approach outlined above, provides the Club with the best possible opportunity to ensure we hit the ground running when we reopen. We will keep you updated as much as possible, thank you to our Members and the broader community for your support during this most challenging time.
Happy Easter to you and your family and please stay safe.
